Jay Negron,
Jari Salo,
Read what Jari had to say about the Philly sound!
When I first time heard Phillysound, it was 1973. I was thirteen yrs old. Back then I didn't know the music I was listening
to was called Phillysounds, a friend told me thats what is was. It was very rare to hear soul and funk here via radio or
T.V then but we saw "Top of The Pops" shows and there only a few Philly acts in the mix. Then on the radio, we used to
listen to Radio Luxembourg on the mediumwaves ( 208 ), they played a lot of soul and funk. All the DJs were British
guys. In 1973 I didn't have a turntable yet, so I used a portable radio and a cassette player. I still have few tapes left.

Back to Philly, why I did i fall l in love with it? Well, the answer is very simple,
IT WAS JUST SO GOOD! It had jazz,
blues, soul, just a perfect mix. In 1974 a British music mag Black Music came into our hometown and I started to buy all
issues, 12 issues a year. There I read more and more about The Sound of Philadelphia and found out the musicians
and artists. There were Gamble and Huff, Earl Young, Bobby Eli, Norman Harris, Ronnie Baker, Vince Montana, Don
Renaldo, Larry Washington and all those other Legends!

Read what she says about her most recent collaboration with Earl;
I would like to thank my dear friend Earl for accompanying me to my alma mater,Temple University. For the second
consecutive year, Prof. Bryant Simon invited me to speak to the students of his American Studies class, "Sounds of a
Revolution: Rhythm and Blues as heard and Experienced at the Uptown Theater, 1955-1979," and Earl was kind
enough to join me to talk about playing in the Uptowns house band.

The students were blown away when he passed around one of his two Grammys, some of his gold and platinum
albums, and his plaque from Philly's Walk of Fame. Footage from the session will be archived in the Charles Blockson
Collection on Temple's campus. Thanks for everything Earl! As always, you were a class act!

In his teenage years he wanted to do two things, design cars for General Motors and the Ford motor company and play
drums professionally like Earl.Growing up on Philly music would be a very important part of his life. He used it for
background music when drawing and studying. In high School he romanticize his girlfriends with Thom Bell's ballads
and jammed for hours in his parents basement playing along with Earl and MFSB on his drum set. At age 20 he ended
up doing what he set out to do. Attending a creative college in Detroit, he became a successful artist / auto designer /
stylist and played drums professionally for local bands and churches in Detroit Michigan.

EARL YOUNG
Jay Negron! A Hard driving-Jam playing DJ from New York City!
He's the host of "Disco 95 Radio Show" on Saturdays.
Danny Whittled, Creator of the official "Earl Young" website.
This is Earl's most devoted Fan! He is the cousin of the late great Motown
producer "Norman Whitfield", producer of the legendary Temptations!
Long ago an eleven year old Danny learn to play drums exactly the way Earl
did, on (pots-pans-grits boxes) and his mom's discarded sofa. He has followed
Earl since 1972.
Tom Moulton originator of the remix,
A super hot record producer and originator of the remix, the breakdown section, and the 12-inch single vinyl format. He
has humbly maintained that the last two innovations were pure accidents. Perhaps contrary to expectation, Moulton's
early successes in "mixing down" dance records were the result of insistently taking away elements from the original
multi-track.

Tom Moulton's innovative work was honored at the 2004 Dance Music Hall of Fame ceremony in New York City when he
was inducted for his achievements as a Remixer. He is the official archivist of the Bethlehem Jazz and Salsoul music
catalogues, and has overseen all of the digital remastering for the entire catalog.

A "Tom Moulton Mix" is a phrase indicating that a dance record had been mixed by Tom Moulton. Prior to Moulton (and
throughout his active years), no major player had prefaced their name with "A" and followed it with "Mix". One will find
examples of this usage today, but in Mr. Moulton's heyday such usage was unheard of for those seeking respect in the
industry.

In 2010 Tom remixed a 2-cd box set titled the "Tom Moulton Philly Regroved" featuring all the Philly music Earl played
on. Tons of Philly music feature throughout this website possess the magic touch of Tom Moulton!
Tom Moulton,
The Sound of Philadelphia!
He vowed in 1972, one day before he dies he would meet his idol. Well "god" had to be listening because
low and behold 38 years later, HE FINALLY MET EARL!
After 2 phone conversations Danny and Earl found out they had so much in command they where like long lost
brothers! A love for cars, drums, music, healthy life style and much more. In addition to Danny's skills as artist &
designer he became a computer expert in website design and video productions. This talent is a result of what you see
today:
